How do I split expenses on a group trip?

Quicksplit keeps your trip expenses in one place, from the first booking to the last meal. Add what everyone paid, then see who owes what.

Your trip, step by step

Create a tab → Add your group → Record shared expenses → Settle up

Step 1: create a tab for your trip

You can start a tab as soon as someone pays for a booking:

  1. Tap Create Tab in the Quicksplit app.
  2. Name your tab something descriptive, like Spain Trip or Ski Holiday.
  3. Choose the currency for your tab’s totals. You can still add expenses in other supported currencies.
  4. Share the tab’s invite link with everyone joining the trip.
  5. (Optional) Add your friends as placeholder members. This lets you start splitting costs even if they haven't downloaded the app yet. They can take over their placeholder when they join.

Start with your first booking

Record flights or accommodation when they’re paid for. Include who paid and who’s sharing the cost.

Step 2: log expenses as you go

Add the expenses your group is sharing:

  • Flights & Accommodation: Often the biggest expenses. Add them as soon as they're paid, noting who paid.
  • Group Meals: One person can pay and add the bill to Quicksplit, splitting it equally or by who ate what.
  • Activities & Excursions: Tickets for theme parks, museum entries, or guided tours – keep track of them all.
  • Transport: Add shared taxi fares, train tickets, or rental car costs.
  • Other shared costs: From sunscreen to souvenirs bought for the group, every shared cost can be added.

Handling flights & hotels

  • • Add the total cost.
  • • Select who paid (e.g., the person whose card was used).
  • • Split the cost with everyone it covers. If someone joins for only part of the trip, enter their share as a custom amount.

Split a restaurant bill

  • • One person pays the bill.
  • • Add the expense in Quicksplit.
  • • You can split the bill equally or enter custom amounts if people had different dishes.

Step 3: settle up

You can settle up during the trip or when you get home:

  • Check the tab summary to see who owes what.
  • Quicksplit suggests who should pay whom.
  • Send money to the people you owe and then mark those transfers as complete within the Settle tab screen.

You can keep using the same tab

Settling up doesn’t close your tab. If another shared expense comes up, add it and Quicksplit will update the balances.
